The sun graciously peaked through the clouds to take the chill out of the morning air.

Port Moody gets the initial kick-off and within seconds makes their first shot on our goal but without success.
Within minutes Jordan Wallace races up the field and blasts it at the Cougar’s net but is unsuccessful.
The game is very well matched with the ball repeatedly moving from one end of the field to the other. Gorge had an edge in the first half in ball possession and control and likely had twice the number of shots, but denied a goal. Quinn even placed one cross that slid along the crossbar but would not slip in. There were several headers off corner kicks that popped wide or high. Gorge defenders did very well in keeping the opposition from having strong shooting opportunities. It was an “assertive” game with some big hits as part of headers, challenges and checks. Around the middle of the 1st half the Cougars took a corner, the shot was blocked by Gorge, was shuffling around in front of the net, when an odd rebound, took a strange bounce and jumped up over our defenders and Mateus for the first goal of the game.
In the second half, Ryan L was pushed up to a forward position, Ryan E up to mid-field and RJ subbed in. At one crucial point, with the sun glaring in Mateus’ eyes, one of the Cougars, volleyed it from about 35 yards out, high into the air. Mateus was sure he as going to get the ball, but misjudged and the ball bounced behind him toward the goal. David Rattray or Ratte’ came out of no-where, assessed the pending goal, and headed it up over the back of the net, saving Gorge from a 2nd goal against. Gorge fought with full energy and control throughout the 2nd half, trying to tie the game, but could not put one into the net. Again Gorge many scoring opportunities and shots, and again the Gorge defence was consistently shutting down the best of the mainland’s forwards. Within minutes before the end of the game, one of Gorge’s pushes to score had Ryan E and Tom racing towards the goal, and both, unable to stop, ran into the keeper, who jumped up and started back at the boys. The interaction was immediately ended with a brief talking to by the referee.
In the end, the Port Moody Cougars were victorious in a 1 to 0 game against the Gorge FC club. Gorge looks forward to the next time they play during the Provincials in July.
