This match pits the top Island team against the top mainland team.
Gorge FC won the league and the Island berth to the Provincials. Port Moody finished in 2nd place in their league and won 3 straight games to advance to the Coastal Cup Finals. As such, they took the number one mainland region berth for the Provincials.

The second mainland berth will be decided on Saturday April 14 in the 'backdoor' route, pitting Whalley Strikers (who Gorge FC defeated 3-2 in penalties in the Coastal Cup Semi Final) against South Burnaby Vipers (who lost 2-0 to Port Moody in the other Semi Final).

Port Moody returns to the Coastal Cup Finals for the second year in a row, narrowly losing to South Burnaby Vipers last year by a score of 1-0. Port Moody is the defending Provincial Champions and this year, sported a league record of 9 wins, 1 draw and 0 losses with 20 goals for and 3 against. On the road to the Coastal Cup Finals this year, they won their 3 games shutting out the opposition by scoring 6 and letting in 0.

Gorge FC sported a strong 10 win 2 tie 2 loss record in league play (1 loss being a forfeit) scoring 38 and letting in 13. The road to the Provincials was a long and hard one with three games protested and 3 of them going to PK's. As noted above, our 4th PK game was against Whalley to reach the Coastal Cup Finals.

This very well may be a preview of the Gold Medal game this July.

It should be a cracker of a match.
