Gorge FC v Gordon Head Nov 4

Gorge FC 3 - 3 Gordon Head

A penalty, an own goal and a hat trick were the scoring highlights to finish off a well played affair in a draw.
When most fields in the city had closed for the afternoon games because of the non-stop rain, Bullen 1 was still in playable condition. And, despite many parents and players hesitation, the game went ahead.
Gordon Head and Gorge FC play a similar passing game relying on skill and movement to create chances.
The first Gordon Head goal was an unfortunate handball in our box for a penalty.
The second GH goal was due to indecision and some hesitant passing from defender to keeper which allowed a hustling Gordon Head forward to get in front of a clearing kick by Mateusz and deflect it back into the net. The first half ended with Gordon Head up by two.
The second half saw Gordon Head increase their lead to 3 - 0 when an unmarked GH forward was allowed space to turn and shoot high and hard from the top of the box over the outstretched hands of Matuesz.
A few tactical changes in the final 20 mintues saw Quinn dropping back into a defensive position, Ryan E moving up into the mid field and Tom taking his place on the forward line.
These changes helped turn the tide of the game. Quinn's vision and ball placement from his defensive spot was bang on. He was able to play the ball forward to where the midfielders were moving into open space. Both Ryan L and Russell benefited with strong runs up the left side. Big Ryan used his size and strength to neutralize the big Gordon Head midfielders and control the zone. Finally, Tom's aggressive approach in the attacking third had him time after time in scoring positions.
It paid off as Tom potted a natural hat trick with some cool, under pressure finishing. Twice going in tight on the keeper and shooting home and his third on a nice pass from David into the box, he trapped the ball, turned and shot with his left foot to tie the game.
Gorge FC poured on the pressure to get the deciding goal, but Gordon Head held fast to salvage a point.
