Richmond Game 1 & 2

The sun played hide and seek between the clouds over the lovely rough'n' wet little natural grass field nestled in the centre of a jogging track, surrounded by building cranes, box condos and a 4 - ice-rink arena. Teenage women figure skaters elegantly twirled and fell in arena #1 as the boys wandered past, hardly noticing.

GAME 1 against Whalley Strikers started at 11:39 am with the boys playing a little tenuous for the first 6 minutes, getting a feel for the opposition's strategy. Later in the game at 6min-20 seconds, Clayton made a precision throw-in to Jordy who performed a few magical foot moves before crossing over to Russell and a strong shot found its way into the net to open the scoring.

How Many Headers take place during a 1st game you ask?

1- Kevin and Russell
2- Evan and RJ
3- David and Ryan L
7- Tom
8- Ryan E
21 times the ball touched the head of our boys (intentionally)

Ryan L, Kevin and Jordy showed great ball handling, stealing the ball from the opposition and tearing up the field.

The game continued with Whalley Strikers planting a ball in our net at 15min 1 second into the match, which ended the match in a 1 to 1 tie.

GAME 2

Same great field, against Richmond City Whitecaps started at 2:55 pm.

69 minutes into the game Ryan L. makes a great run and pass over to Clayton. Clayton fed our elite striker, Russell who launches from outside the 18 yd box to lay one in over the head of their keeper.

The ball finds most of its time in the Gorge end of the field and Mateusz is peppered repeatedly, but with help from Evan and Tom, the ball is repeatedly denied entry into our net.

Quinn had some powerful shots on goal, but that stupid upper bar on the net was clearly about 5 inches too high and the ball bounced away.

Ryan E had a nice header off a corner, but did not find its home inside their net.

Much later in the game, about 75 minutes in, Richmond made a great cross followed by a beautiful header to tie the game at 1 to 1.

Other Highlights.

How many injuries you ask?

15 minutes in, Jordy takes a hard kick to the ankle and is carried off the field for the duration of the game.
32 minutes in, RJ is sent for a spectacular spill, and he takes a few momemts on the ground before rebounding to finish out the game in fine fashion.
40 minutes in, Tom has an interaction with the opposition and rolls around the field until he is helped to leave the lush wet green natural pitch. He will not return to the game.
45 minutes in, Russell requests a sub as he hobbles off the field. Feeling he has scored all the goals so far, he takes a well deserved break until the next day.

The game ended in a 1 to 1 tie.
